Note

Mass DM is a one-time asset

You can burn a list once. The second send is postage on a grave.

Mass DM feels like a growth lever because the first one prints. You had a year of names sitting there. You dropped a line. A slice bought. The dashboard looks like you built a department overnight. People screenshot it. Someone in the group chat asks for the copy. That is the trap, and it is a very comfortable trap, because the first cut of a forest always looks like you invented wood.

The second send is when you learn what you actually did. Same names, colder. The ones who wanted you already answered. The ones who did not have now been trained to swipe you away. They did not “not see it.” They voted. A third send with a new hook and a new photo is not a new campaign. It is you talking to people who already told you no, plus a few who said yes and are now getting the same energy they got as strangers. That second group is how you turn a buyer into someone who mutes you.

Shops that live on blasts are shops that have to keep buying names. The week only works if there is a new list. That is a media business with a chatting costume. There is nothing immoral about media. Just stop calling it an inbox. An inbox is a place where a relationship can get more expensive over time. A furnace is a place where you throw names and hope the flame is pretty this week.

The list remembers you longer than you remember the blast.

Openers do not reset.

Treat the first send as a cut of wood, not a tap. Warmth if you have it, a reason if you have one, a unique link if you must so you can see who actually moved. Then leave the rest of the list alone long enough that a second note is a letter. “Long enough” is longer than you want it to be. It is not three days because the week is soft. If you cannot sit with that, you are not running CRM. You are running a panic button with a send count.

The shops that get this right look slower from the outside. They blast less. Their second touch is smaller and weirder and aimed at people who did something — opened, replied, bought once, went quiet after a good month. That is unglamorous. It also does not teach the entire list to ignore you. Ignoring you is a habit. Once it is installed, your next “best opener yet” is just more noise in a thread they already decided was noise.

If the only way the week works is another blast, you do not have an inbox. You have a furnace, and furnaces need fuel. Fuel runs out. The list does not grow back the way you think it does.
