Selling with Stars

Most OFM shops sitting on Telegram do not have a real card rail in the chat. What they have is Stars. A fan taps unlock, Telegram takes its cut, the file goes out, and for a minute it feels like you built a payment system. You did not. You priced a gift. Stars are inventory Telegram lets people buy and spend inside the app. They are not a merchant account, they are not a settlement file, and they are not money you can treat like a Stripe balance just because the number went up.

That is the first problem, and it is not a small one. Adult PPV — the way agencies actually sell, paid media in a private thread — sits badly against Telegram’s terms. Everyone in this market knows it and then politely forgets it on weeks that print. Telegram can unwind a wallet. They can hold it. They can empty it. There is no chargeback desk for you to argue with, and there is no account manager who is going to get on a call and walk you through a “dispute.” You were using their toy store as a processor. When they change their mind, the chats are still there and the money is not.

One agency ran Stars themselves for a stretch. They collected, they paid people out of it, they talked about the week like the balance was cash in a bank. Then it was gone — a hold, a clawback, the wallet emptied. I will not dress that up. They had been the processor, the support line, and the person who ate the loss, all at once. The fans who had already unlocked did not come back and pay a second time. Why would they?

You may lose it. It is still better than nothing.

A desk with no unlock at all is a desk that talks and never bills. That is worse, and everyone who has tried to “just build relationship” on Telegram for a month knows it. So shops keep pressing the button. They have read the terms. They have heard the story about the shop that lost the pot. They do it anyway, because the other option on Telegram is a handshake, a “I’ll send it after,” and an invoice that never arrives. Ugly cash that might disappear still beats a full inbox and a quiet Friday.

A few tools will run the unlock so you are not standing up a bot you do not want to maintain.
